From the Director -
For my senior thesis, I have written a short film. "i hope you mourn me" is a short film based on true events.
Olivia doesn’t feel in control of her life. She’s trying to figure it out by leaning on her best friend, Sam. Although Olivia feels safe with Sam, Sam may not have her best interests at heart.
Young queer love can be beautiful, but it can also hurt. Olivia needs her freedom, and she finally finds this through Gwen. Though she feels warmth from Gwen, she turns around to Sam who is freezing her out and manipulating her. We follow Olivia through a short two-day span of her life as she’s trying to figure out whether she should trust Sam and brave the cold, or embrace the warmth she feels from Gwen.
Being a queer person, navigating relationships at a young age was never easy. I was barely out to the world; I didn't feel in control of myself because I was living in this lie that I was "straight". I thought I could trust someone who, I thought, was much more confident in their queer identity. Though it was an extremely toxic relationship, I learned how to actually take control of my life. This film helped me close a chapter in my life; it’s given me a sense of freedom that I never thought I’d feel again. Many young queer people go through similar situations, and I hope that this film can give them a sense of community and freedom as well.
I'm extremely excited to share this piece with all of you. Please subscribe to receive updates on this project and my other projects!
